getting emails about renewing but domain was cancelled

I thought that I had cancelled my domain/account and don't understand why I am getting emails saying it will renew on 12/15/13.

In many cases, individuals will cancel their hosting with us, but keep their domain if they wanted to keep it, for example if they are moving their website to another host. In that event, we would cancel your hosting, but keep your domain active to ensure that you do not have the risk of it expiring and someone else taking it.
