Thank you, Scott, for your response. I still do not know where I can check the answers to my tickets, so I will take your word for that they are answered, and still be in the dark as to the answer :-(

Scott M: "There is a guide online to help teach SpamAssassin via Cron job, however I cannot confirm this works for shared servers."

Scott, I do not understand, and I am not being facetious, how WebHostingHub cannot know if a cron job will work in the case of one of their customers (with a "shared server"). I chose WHH because of excellent spam reviews on the web, and I am, frankly, surprised that you do not know. If you do not know if it works with your setup/servers/SpamAssassin settings, who the heck would? :-)

To only be able to adjust SpamAssassin with the score is crude. Teaching it is necessary to achieve "spamalittle". Why should we poor users settle for the crude? I do not get it!

Looking forward to your response to this. And, again, thank you for your previous response.

Hans Leander

========== Scott M's answer ==========

Hello Hans,

Thank you for your questions today. I did a check on your account and do see that we have responded to every ticket that we received since your account's inception. It is possible that you did not receive the responses or that they were dealt with by your spam filters. We apologize if it seems like we were not responding as that is never our intention.

As for questions posted here, the support center is 'open' Mon-Fri 8am-9pm for answers to be received within 60 minutes. Any questions asked outside that time are dealt with when the Help Center reopens. You can, of course, ask questions at any time, of course. I do think this needs to be more prominent on the website so we will check into getting that added as well.

Now to your questions about SpamAssassin. The best way to catch more spam is to lower the score a bit. You can lower it by half or whole points (from 5 to 4.5 or 4). This should help it catch a bit more spam.

As to teaching SpamAssassin, I am not aware of a method that I can say works on a shared server. It can be done at the admin level, however. There is a guide online to help teach SpamAssassin via Cron job, however I cannot confirm this works for shared servers. If you wish to try, you can find the link here.

We are also working on another login option for those who do not wish to use their social media accounts for security reasons. Hopefully this will be rolled out soon so you can then have your own account within the Help Center. I completely understand as that is how I like to do things myself.

Please let us know if you have any further questions.

Kindest Regards,
Scott M

Hello Hans,

Are the only ones you did not receive responses to the ones mentioned in the previous question? I can certainly make sure I get the responses resent to you via your primary email account on file.

There is a way to set up Spam Assassin to learn, however it requires admin level access and 'samples' of at least a couple thousand 'spam' and 'ham' emails. A program then runs and teaches SpamAssassin more. That is the way described in their documentation.

The link we provided was found when researching for your situation so it has not been confirmed to work for a shared server. It will take some testing to confirm whether it is a valid solution overall. It may even take some tweaking. No one has asked this particular question before so we are now in the discovery stages of a solution.

In the meantime, the sliding scale provided by SpamAssassin will still work in the current range. But rest assured we will see if an answer to your question exists!

Kindest Regards,
Scott M
