Just started getting multiple emails from contact form on website

Today i just started receiving multiple emails from a whole variety of email addresses on different domains (gmails, yahoo emails, hotmail emails etc. I am getting about one every few minutes. This has never happened before.

Question 1 - Is it just spam?
Question 2 - What is the best way to stop this?

Hello,

Sorry for the problem with your form getting spammed. This is a common issue -especially when a form is not protected against automated hits. The best way to stop it is to add a verification step in the form that checks against "robots". Basically, you can do this by adding a plugin or form option (e.g. Captcha) that verifies that the person using the form is a person and not a robot.
