I'm trying to note and potential modify a MySQL database user's privileges through SQL commands. Trying commands on MyPHPAdmin, I can only get one such command to work. 'SHOW GRANTS FOR CURRENT_USER;' This returns a basic rundown of the privileges of user 'paonia5'; which I take to be the default user/administrator for my site. When I try to get the privileges of another user (such as 'paonia5_WbPgSQL', or even that of 'paonia5' itself; I get the following error: "#1044 - Access denied for user 'paonia5'@'localhost' to database 'mysql'". Is there a way to configure PHP (or whatever) to allow an SQL command by a user with sufficient rights to be able to administrate privileges by SQL? Noting WAMP's response to similar SQL Queries I've noted that 'with GRANT OPTION' was not specified for the sign in administrator in the response to the 'CURRENT_USER' query on Web Hub's server, though.

I finally found out how to use 'MySQL Database' to set a privilege for a User. So there is that direct approach noted. Yet SQL's documentation states that a User can be enabled to give another User privileges equal to its own. So it should be possible, from that stand point.

Hello gdmellot,

Thank you for your question. In a normal environment you should be able to set the permissions in that manner. However, when you are using a cPanel, privileges must be set in cPnael. As it is just the way cpanel operates.

To change a database user's permissions in cPanel, click the MySQL Databases button under Databases, then under Current Databases click the username that you want to modify the privileges for, and you will be able to choose the permissions you want to grant the user.
