Change Home Directory from public_html (document root)

I want my index.html and all associated files in a subfolder of my public_html folder. How do I set this with my .htaccess file or any other built in tools? With my former hosting company, it was just a simple setting.

Thank you for your question about changing your document root. I see that you have submitted your request through a verified email and advised us of the name of the folder you want to be your new document root. This request is currently with our Systems Team to process for you as quickly as possible. Once the change has been completed, our Systems Team will respond to your email and let you know your new document root has been set up.
