Why is AWStats Always Broken?

AWStatus is seriously broken. I have contacted support many times and they run the stats manually and think everything is fine. It isn't. Now they have put a link on the stats output page that say update now but that never works. The error message always says that logs are being processed. I've had good luck with support until now. For this problem they seem clueless on how to actually fix the problem. They also say to go to Google analytics but I don't want to.Either fix this problem for real or remove AWStats completely.

The AWSTATS program is set to run every night during a slow period when the server load is below a certain point. If the time comes for the program to run and the server is still above the minimum load, that day gets skipped. There can be times when the server does not meet the minimum server load for a while. We are working towards a better solution for those who want to use AWSTATS and Logaholic. As an addition to those stats programs, many customers also use Google Analytics. It complements the Logaholic and AWSTATS nicely.

When you click on the update link and see that the program is running, it is due to someone else on the server running the update at the same time.
