What is the best method to verify my site with Google?

I do not understand where to place a metatag or why google cannot find the file they told me to place on my homepage for owner verification. Any help would be HUGE as I am desperate to get into google webmaster. Thanks!

Hello Smullan88,

Great question about verifying your site with Google. If you want to use the metatag option, place the tags at the top of your page in the HTML coding, in the of your website. The tag can be found at the top of all your web pages and the content within the header tag is not seen by your website visitor.

You may find it easier to work with the verification file. Please make sure it's in your public_html folder as that is your site's document root directory.
