I want to authenticate users logging into a sub domain with SSL. Please advice how I can do this. I plan to use web hostings shared ssl plan.

Do I need to enable ssl on the shared domain?

Hello DJANGO, and thanks for your question.

Your sub domain will point to a particular directory in your hosting account. For example you might have a sub domain called shop.example.com pointing to the directory /public_html/shop/.

In order to access that directory over the shared SSL certificate on the server, you would need to make your links so they are using the following URL format:

https://secure22.webhostinghub.com/~userna5/shop/

Of course you'll want to substitute secure22 for your actual server which you can find out by following the link about about the shared SSL. You'll also want to replace ~userna5 with your actual cPanel username for your account.

Please let us know if you had any further questions at all.
