Can I hide my WordPress site while I'm working on it?

After installing WordPress, it immediately placed a default web page on the web for by site. I really did not want anything out there, until I had a more complete page setup.

How do I temporarily prevent the site from being viewed? How can I work on a "Test-Site" that no one else can see, until I am ready to go live?

Thanks for any help!

Hello WebHostingNewbie,

Great question about creating and working with a test site. Since you're using WordPress, I would recommendsetting up a Coming Soon page using the Simple "Coming soon" And "Under construction" plugin. This will allow you to view the site as your building it when you're logged in but everyone else will only see a Coming Soon page when they visit your site.

While researching this for you, I see that the CSS for your WordPress theme is not loading properly. I would recommend checking your site URL in your WordPress database using phpMyadmin. In the table wp_options the fields "siteurl" and "home" should match your domain name. You can also set that through your wp-config.php file by adding this (just before or after the existing defines is a good place):

define('WP_HOME', 'http://yourdomain.com');
define('WP_SITEURL', 'http://yourdomain.com');

Please let us know if you have any additional questions or need further assistance.

Regards,

Christi N.
