Can I use WordPress from subdomain or subdirectory for main domain?

I have a new twist on an old question. I have my domain, but I want to start with Wordpress, but I want to add a website down the road. So instead of having to move everything around at a later date I thought I would set it up as if I have the website and Wordpress already active. Some I have read say use a subdirectory, but if I do not have a webpage a subdirectory make no sense. I was thinking of using a subdomain, but I know people are generally lazy and will just want to enter the domain name instead of the subdomain. So I was thinking of having the domain point to the subdomain until I get my web site up and running.

I hope this madness makes sense. Any thoughts on what would be my best option for this setup?

Hello David,

Thank you for your question regarding setting up your site and WordPress site. If I understand your question correctly, what you want to do is start off with WordPress, but eventually use something else for the main part of your site and have a separate area for WordPress as your blog. Before we get into how to do that, did you know you can use WordPress for your entire site, not just for blogging? By creating Pages inside of WordPress you can add information that is traditionally found on static sites (e.g. Contact, About, Services, etc.). You can build pretty much Running WordPress from a Subdomain or Subdirectory.

In the future, when you're ready to switch WordPress back to it's own subdomain or subdirectory, simply reverse those instructions. Then, in the main part of your site, simply add a link to the subdirectory or subdomain where you have WordPress installed.
