The single option for SQL Server queries that PrestaShop includes is the encoding used:  UTF-8 or ISO-8859-1.  The following tutorial explains how to quickly make the setting for the encoding type used in the SQL Manager for PrestaShop 1.5.

Selecting the Encoding File used by SQL Manager in PrestaShop 1.5

  1. To get to the Performance section of the Advanced Parameters for Prestashop, first login to the Administrator Dashboard
  2. Hover over menu bar where it says ADVANCED PARAMETERS - click on SQL MANAGER when it appears in the drop-down menu.  Then scroll down to the bottom until you see the SETTINGS section.
  3. You will see something similar to this screenshot:

Click on the drop down arrow and by default you will only see the following encoding types available:

UTF-8   - majorly used on the internet; currently most widely used encoding for characters and was made to be specifically backwards compatible to ASCII

ISO-8859-1 - Default character encoding that uses standard ASCII Character set; older standard generally used for Western European languages

  4. Select the encoding you wish to use, then click on the SAVE button in the upper right hand corner to save your selection.

Selecting the encoding type used is important depending on how your database was setup.  It is most important to keep this in mind when using various languages in your shop like Chinese which does not use the typical characters found in Western European languages.  Select the option that best meets your needs and your queries will be saved in the proper format for your analyses.
