To add a meta keywords tag to your website, in the <head> of your HTML coding you will enter the following tag:

<meta name="keywords" content="enter keywords here" />

As it was mentioned in a previous article, meta keywords are not used as prominently for actual search engine ranking as they were in the past, however some search engines do use them and your site will not be penalized by any search engine for having keywords.  The important thing to remember when adding keywords is to keep them brief (usually one or two words), and to make sure they are as accurate as possible.  If the keywords do not match the site content, then it will not help your site listing as any robots that use the keywords also search the web pages for the keywords mentioned.

When adding keywords, each keyword will have a comma between them.  For example, the keyword meta tag for yahoo.com looks like:

<meta name="keywords" content="yahoo, yahoo home page, yahoo homepage, yahoo search, yahoo mail, yahoo messenger, yahoo games, news, finance, sport, entertainment">

As you can see it is accurate, but does not overload the section with too many keywords.  For your website, it is best to use specific words rather then really broad topics.  For example if you have a website about cars with a lot of information specifically on Ford cars, in the keywords besides having "cars" also have "ford cars, ford fusion" etc.  A search for "cars" will yield a lot more results then "ford fusion" so you want to describe your content as concisely and accurately as possible.

By adding meta descriptions and meta keywords to your web page, you can help make your website more visible to potential visitors in search engine results.  It is not a miracle solution for having a high search result but every bit helps and it only takes a few minutes to complete.
