If you had your website previously hosted with a different hosting company, to use the same web pages you will need to migrate your site to our servers.  The easiest way to do that is by downloading your files via FTP, and then re-uploading them onto your hosting with Web Hosting Hub.  If your previous host also uses cPanel, please see our guide for migrating your site using a cPanel backup.

How to move your current website to Web Hosting Hub

  1. Download your Website Files: Using an FTP Client, download your website files from your prior web host.  For assistance using FTP please visit the Getting Started Guide: FTP.
  2. Export your Databases (if needed):  MySQL databases will not be able to be accessed via FTP. If your previous host offers phpMyAdmin for managing databases please see our article on exporting a database in phpMyAdmin. If your host does not offer phpMyAdmin, please contact them for assistance in downloading any databases used with your website.
  3. Upload your Website Files:  This step is similar to the first step as you will also connect via FTP, but this time you will connect to your hosting with Web Hosting Hub and upload all the files that you downloaded from your previous host.  If you are using a program that can publish your website, you can also connect to Web Hosting Hub and re-publish the website using the appropriate settings. If you need more information on the temporary URL to use FTP to upload your website, go to What is my Temporary URL?
  4. Create and Import your Database (if needed): If your site uses a database, first create your database in cPanel and then use phpMyAdmin to import your database.
  5. Test your Website: After you have placed your website files into the proper location (note that the public_html is the new default folder for websites in Web Hosting Hub) , use your temporary URL to test the website.
  6. Point your Domain: After you've tested your website, you're ready to point your domain to our Nameservers.  Log into your registrar's domain management interface and point the domain to our Nameservers:

    ns1.webhostinghub.com
    ns2.webhostinghub.com
  7. Test your Website Again: DNS changes can take 4 to 24 hours to propagate and take full effect, so be sure to check your site periodically so you can test the website again once the nameserver changes have taken full effect.

How to Move Emails to Web Hosting Hub

If your email was set up to connect to your previous host using POP3, your emails would be downloaded to your local computer and moving emails from the previous server shouldn't be needed. However, if you used an IMAP connection to check emails, you will want to follow the steps in our Transferring Emails from your old Host education channel article to move emails over from your previous host.

If you use a third party filtering service for email, please see our article on setting up your MX records for using a third party filtering service for step by step instructions to properly set up your MX records. It's best to set up those MX records before pointing your domain to our Nameservers.
