I have a custom post type thats named as Sports that shows accessories for all the Sports but i want to filter these accessories and show them as per Sport selected. Can I use Category or Tags to filter these accessories?

So if i give different category name like Cricket, Badminton, Table Tennis to these accessories posted in Sports Custom Post Type and when i select Badminton in a dropdown menu then accessories related to Badminton should show. Same goes for other Categories too.

Hello Rains74,

Good question - and a pretty a tough one. Primarily, from what I'm reading posts are recommended to be limited to a 2 categories (but again this is an opinion). However, remember that categories are hierarchical so they can be relational - as opposed to tags which have no set relationship. In your case, you're trying to keep things related, so you may want to stick with categories.

If you want an analogy, categories are like a table of contents where tags are like an index. Check out these articles on categories vs. posts:

Categories Versus Tags

Categories vs Tags – SEO Best Practices for Sorting your Content

I reviewed these three articles in looking at your questions. And there are many more articles on this topic.

I hope this helps! Please let us know if you require further assistance!
