In this tutorial we will show you how to move files using the FileZilla FTP client. FileZilla is a free open-sourced FTP client that is compatible with Windows and Mac, and can be downloaded here:

We are assuming you are familiar with the file structure of your website. For more information regarding where to create the file, here is a link to a helpful article that explains folder structure.

How to Move Files:

  1. Connect to your server using FileZilla.
  2. In the Remote site, navigate to the File / Folder you want to move.
  3. Click the file, then drag and drop it onto the folder you want it to be moved to. In my tests I am moving a folder titled test-folder1, inside a folder titled test-folder2.

The folder will now reside inside the folder you moved it to.

Can you place a file in a folder on a desktop. Double click on the file and it moves to Filezilla.

Yes, you can open FileZilla and navigate to the files. Double-clicking files on the left panel will automatically transfer to the server folder on the right. You can also drag and drop the files from your desktop directly into FileZilla
Thank you,
John-Paul
