There may be times that you need to redirect traffic from one domain to another. For example, you may need to route all traffic from example.com to example.net. You can also redirect specific pages, such as example.com/info.html to example.net/anotherPage.html. This can easily be accomplished in your cPanel. Alternately, you can edit your .htaccess file directly if you want to custom-code the redirect rules.

Redirect Domain

  1. Log into your cPanel.
  2. Click the Redirects link in the Domains section.
  3. In the Type section choose if you want to create a Permanent (301) or Temporary (302) redirect. Generally, any redirects will be Permanent (which is the default).
  4. In the next drop-down choose the domain you want to forward.
  5. If you want to redirect a specific file (such as info.html) enter it in the blank forward slash '/' field.
  6. In the Redirects to box enter the domain you want the traffic redirected to.
  7. In the "www. redirection" section choose how you want to handle 'www' redirects. The www redirection option allows you to configure how to handle redirects in regard to the www subdomain. For example, you can only apply the redirect when www is included (or when it is not), or you can apply the redirect regardless of whether the user types in www or not. We also have a full guide on Redirecting Your Domain to www or non-www URL.
  8. Choose if you want to do a Wild Card redirect. If you plan on redirecting all pages within example.com to example.net, then choose the option for a Wild Card Redirect. For example, selecting this option would redirect domain.com/page.html to NewDomain.com/page.html. Notice that everything after domain.com/ (in this example "page.html" ) was added after NewDomain.com/.
  9. Once you are done, click on "Add":

Congratulations, now you know how to create a domain redirect in cPanel!

Hello,

This article was beautifully done but I'm having trouble still. Basically, I have the inverse of this problem. I have a web-hosting service that uses cPanel and a domain at GoDaddy. How can I find the ip address in cPanel so I can put it in the forwarding request under GoDaddy?

The instructions may vary at a different host, however, we have a guide here that describes How to Find Your Shared IP Address in cPanel.

If you plan on redirecting all pages within test.subdomain.com to subdomain.com/test2, then choose the option for a Wild Card Redirect. You also need to be sure that you specify /test2 in the URL for the "Redirects to" field

For example, selecting this option would redirect test.subdomain.com/page.html to subdomain.com/test2/page.html.

Jane,

Your issue sounds a little odd. You should be able to simply redirect the page to another URL in the same domain. If you're unable to do that, then please give us more information on how you're doing that. You can also contact our live technical support team (contact at the bottom of the page). They will be able to assist you immediately.
