If you need to restore a backup of your PrestaShop database, the steps to restore the database will depend on how you created your database backup. In our article on creating a PrestaShop backup, we discussed three options for creating a backup:
Please see the appropriate are below for information on restoring each type of backup. Before importing your backup, be sure to set Enable Shop in the Preferences tab to no until you have completed the restoration. Once you have restored your database, you can then re-enabled your PrestaShop store.
If you created your PrestaShop database backup using the partial backup option in the cPanel Backup Wizard, please see our tutorial on Restoring a MySQL Database from a Partial Backup in cPanel.
If you exported your PrestaShop database through phpMyAdmin, please see our tutorial on Importing to a MySQL Database in phpMyAdmin.
If you created your PrestaShop database backup through the DB Backup tool in the PrestaShop back office, the backup file is saved in bzip2 format (BZip compression). This file will need to be uncompressed on your local computer before restoring it on the server. A compression utility such as 7zip can manage bzip2 files and can be used to extract the backup on your local computer. Once you have extracted the .sql file from the bzip2 archive, follow the instructions for importing a file into a MySQL database.
