image of redemption codeIn this tutorial we will show you how to create a discount coupon that is redeemable in your Zen Cart eshop. This can be an important part of promoting your E-commerce website and attracting new customer traffic, by providing them with a reduced price on certain products.

For example, you may sell products that relate to Valentine's day, and you want to provide a 10% discount on items during the first week of February. This can be easily setup from the Admin Panel of Zen Cart.

How to Create a Discount Coupon:

  1. Login to the Admin Panel for Zen Cart.
  2. Roll your mouse over the Modules option, and select Order Total.
  3. On the Order Total Modules list, click the Discount Coupon option, if it is not installed, there will be a +install button over to the right. Click the +Install button if it is not already installed.
  4. On the top menu, roll your mouse over the Gift Certificate/Coupons option, and select Coupon Admin.
  5. Your discount coupons will be listed here, click the insert button to create a new coupon.

    You will be presented with several fields:

    Coupon Name Give the coupon a name to help you identify it from the list.
    Coupon Description Describe the coupon, zen cart advises customers can see this.
    Coupon Amount Enter a number for a dollar amount discount, for example a 1 would take a dollar off. If you entered 1% it would take 1 percent off the product.
    Coupon Minimum Order If you enter a number here, the customer's order must total more than the number amount for the discount to be valid.
    Free Shipping If you select this box
    Coupon Code You can enter a code name for your coupon, or leave it blank and Zen Cart will generate a code automatically.
    Uses per Coupon The number entered here is how many times people can use the same coupon. If you leave it blank, they will be able to use it over and over again without a limit.
    Uses per Customer The number entered here is how many times a customer can use the same coupon. If you leave it blank, they will be able to use it over and over again without a limit.
    Start Date Enter a date for the coupon promotion to begin
    End Date Enter a date for the coupon to expire.
    Coupon Zone Restriction This is optional, but if you select a zone, users in that zone will not be able to redeem this coupon.

    After making your selections, click the preview button on the bottom left. You will see a summary of your selections, review them and click the confirm button to proceed.
