Manufacturers are used by Opencart to help with searching and organizing products in OpenCart.  They can also be used to determine where some products may be sold.   The following tutorial will show you how to add, edit or remove manufacturers from OpenCart 1.5.

Managing the Product Manufacturers in OpenCart 1.5

  1. Login to the Administration Dashboard as an Administrator
  2. Place your mouse over CATALOG in the menu bar.  Click on MANUFACTURERS when the drop-down menu appears.  Select a manufacturer from your list to EDIT. If you have no MANUFACTURERS already added, then use INSERT to add a new option.  You can also select an item in the list of manufacturers to DELETE, if needed
  3. When you add a new option you will see the following screen:

Fill in the MANUFACTURER name as it is required before it can be saved.  The rest of the items are described below:

Stores used when you are using OpenCart to manage more than one store
SEO Keyword Keyword used for Search Optimization - should be unique
Image image or logo of manufacturer
Sort Order used to determine the order that manufacturers will appear in
  4. Select and fill in the rest of the fields for which you have data.  Once you have completed entering the data for your manufacturer, go to SAVE in order to save your entries

Adding a manufacturer helps to provide a familiar brand name that may appeal to the customers of your store.  It can help to organize your products, and in some cases, if your product is limited to a geographical area, it may help to determine where it will be sold.  Here's an example of a storefront image where BRAND is the actual manufacturer as per the the theme used:
