There are many different types of websites online. One of the first things you'll need to do is decide what type of website you need / want. In the article below, we'll review the three most common types of websites on the web. To see the overall steps building a website, go to How to build a website.

Sample brochure websiteWebsite Type 1: Brochure websites

If you think about a brochure, it's simply a few small pages that explain the products or services a business provides. It covers the main topics, and is simple and easy to read.

An example of a brochure website is a site for a company that does automotive detailing. They may have an "about us" type page and an "our services" page, but it doesn't go too much beyond basic information about the business.

Sample blog websiteWebsite Type 2: Blogs

A Blog is like an online newspaper. It is a type of website where you post new articles to on a regular basis. When you update your site often and always have something new and interesting to read, it keeps your audience coming back and back again.

An example blog could be a personal website, like an online diary / journal. Whenever you want, you can add new posts to your website to keep your family and friends updated on what's going on in your life. You can also think of an online newspaper like a blog, because new stories are published and rotated on a regular basis.

Sample ecommerce websiteWebsite Type 3: E-commerce websites

E-commerce websites may be the harder of the three to setup, but the easiest to understand. If you want to sell a product online, you'll want an online store (e-commerce website).

Most people are familar with amazon.com, one of most popular online stores. That is a very good example of an e-commerce website. Let's say for example you create custom jewelry and wanted to sell it online, this is another scenario in which you would need an e-commerce type website.

There are many programs available that can help you build any of the three types of websites described above. As we continue our tutorial series, we'll look at each type of website more closely and review the various programs you can use to build them. Your next step in building your website is to determine the type of software that you will want to use. You can also review the entire educational channel for building a new website.
