In this tutorial we will show you how to change your Joomla! domain name. For example you may have your Joomla! website on exampleA.com, and want to change it to exampleB.com.

Changing Your Domain Name:

  1. Locate the configuration.php file, it is in the Joomla! root folder.
  2. Then using a file editor such as File manager, or FileZilla, locate the following line of code:

    public $live_site = 'http://exampleA.com';

  3. Enter the new domain name in place of the exampleA.com, then save the code.

    It should look like this:

    public $live_site = 'http://exampleB.com';

    Your website will now be configured to load with the new domain name.

    Congratulations, now you know how to change your domain name in Joomla!

Hello Samira,

Thank you for your comment. You will have to update any email forms to reflect the new domain's email settings.

Also, your emails shouldn't be lost unless you delete them with an email program.

If you have any further questions, feel free to post them below.
Thank you,

-John-Paul
