In this guide I will show you how to install the official Twitter plugin in your WordPress installation.

Why Use a Twitter WordPress Plugin?

Installing a Twitter plugin allows to organize and syndicate your content without having to log into multiple accounts. Content published to your WordPress site will simultaneously update your site's Twitter feed.

The official Twitter plugin allows you to embed a Twitter follow button, Vine, or Periscope On Air button directly into your WordPress posts. Now your WordPress site will link up with your Twitter identity.

Also, this plugin is written and maintained by Twitter, so you can be sure that new Twitter features will be available to you as they are released.

How to Install and Set up the Twitter Widget

Log into your WordPress Dashboard and follow these steps:

  1. Choose Plugins > Add New
  2. In the Search field type Twitter
  3. The top search result should read: Twitter: Official Twitter, Vine, and Periscope plugin for WordPress. Embed content and grow your audience. Requires PHP 5.4 or greater.
  4. Click Install
  5. Choose Activate Plugin

You should now the Twitter logo on the left panel of your Dashboard. Simply type in your Twitter account information, and you can now begin configuring the plugin to meet your specifications.
