I want to setup a folder where some of my customers can download one or more files. I don't all of them to have this ability, so I'd like to password protect it. It would also be nice if there were a log file, so I can keep track of which customers have downloaded files.

Also, is it possible, using my current account, to set up a web service? I am looking at setting up an activation system for my products, where I keep a database of licenses that customers can activate or deactivate their software license. I know that I will have to write the actual service software. I just want to know if it is possible and what website things I would have to do.

And lastly, it is possible to set up of kind of cloud service using my account. This will probably be a low volume activity where my customers can store small amounts of data for other customers (as well as themselves) to access.

Thanks

Hello FrankElm,

It is possible to create a directory, and password protect it so that only those who have the password can access it. This is done through the Cpanel. You can also create multiple FTP accounts, but not on the fly (only through admin level access) and access reporting would not possible for either type.

It is possible to use existing software or write software that can act as a web service to manage your licensing. Solutions that you develop or discover can be installed on the web server to meet this need. You will need to make sure that all requirements for the solution is met by our hosting service. Depending on what you run, you may need a different type of hosting service. With Web Hosting Hub, the host you are using is a shared server. If you require direct access to the server for installation purposes, then you will not have access. If you require an installation directly to the server, you may submit a support ticket to live support to see if an installation can be done. There are also ecommerce solutions that may meet your needs, but you will need to research this and see if matches your needs.

In terms of your last question -the cloud service- we do not permit the use of the server as a storage area - it would be against terms of service.

If you have any further questions, please contact technical support or leave a comment at the bottom of the page.

Regards,

Arnel C.
