SEO (Search Engine Optimization) refers to strategies and settings you can implement in order to improve site's listing in search engine results. For example, enabling search engine friendly URLs (SEFs) is a recommended practice for PrestaShop search engine optimization. In this article, we discuss two free SEO modules for PrestaShop that can help you with your SEO efforts for your PrestaShop site: the Google Sitemap module and the Rich Snippets and Semantic SEO module.

Google sitemap SEO module

The Google sitemap module is considered an SEO module because generating and submitting a sitemap to Google (and other search engines) can help search engine bots effectively scan and index your website. This module is included in the full PrestaShop installation and is installed by default.

The Google sitemap module is located under the SEO section of your PrestaShop Modules tab. If you have any trouble finding it, remember you can do a search for the module using the module search box. You can use the Configure link to change the settings for the module and generate your PrestaShop sitemap.

Take note of the URL where your sitemap is located. This is the URL you will want to use when submitting your sitemap to Google or other search engines.

Generating your PrestaShop sitemap is that easy. As you make changes to your PrestaShop site such as adding or removing products and categories, adding or removing content (CMS) pages, etc. it's best practice to regenerate your sitemap and resubmit it.

Rich Snippets and Semantic SEO Module with GoodRelations

This module adds markup to your PrestaShop site that will add rich snippets to your product and category pages when they appear in search engine results. Rich snippets are detailed pieces of information that provide more information about a product or category when your PrestaShop pages appear in search results. While this may not directly affect SEO (rich snippets are not taken into account when determining search engine rankings) your site's results will be more appealing to potential visitors which can increase your click through rate in search results (how many people come to your site from the search results).

This PrestaShop SEO module can be found for free in the PrestaShop Addons marketplace. Once you have downloaded and installed the module, you can make any changes as needed by selecting the Configure link under the module.

Keep in mind that it can take anywhere from a few days to several weeks before rich snippets will show up for your site's pages in search results. If you have any questions regarding the use of this PrestaShop SEO module, feel free to join the GoodRelations mailing list.

Other PrestaShop SEO Modules and Tips

There are quite a few SEO modules around for PrestaShop, which vary in price. There are also things you can do within your PrestaShop back office to enhance your site's SEO without purchasing or installing a module:

  • Enable SEFs (Search Engine Friendly) URLs for your PrestaShop site.
  • When creating products or categories, be sure to create a good SEF URL for each category or product.
  • When creating products or categories, make use of the Meta title, Meta description, and Meta keywords fields.
  • Be as descriptive as possible when creating products and categories. Be sure to include keywords in your descriptions.

Using the two SEO modules shown above, along with the tips outlined will increase the likelihood of your site appearing in search results.

Hello SAQ,

Thank you for your question. This article is for PrestaShop 1.4, and the plugin you are linking to is not compatible with 1.4.

Also, this article mostly discusses free PrestaShop modules, and the one you mention costs €60, or over $80 usd.

If you have any further questions, feel free to post them below.
Thank you,

-John-Paul
