I have an existing website that works. I add a subdirectory containing only an "index.php" file. When I try to run the code using "http://www.originalDomain.com/subdirectoy", I get a 500 internal server error. and a 404 not found error. It is NOT a permission problem. The permission on the subdirectory and the file are both 777

Hello,

Sorry for the problem with 500 internal server error. Actually, you stated the very reason that you're getting that error. You cannot have an index file or directory/subdirectory using permissions 777 that can be browsed from the internet. This is not permitted due for security purposes. Change the permissions to 755 or 644 for either and you should see the error go away.

You also mentioned that you were seeing a 404 error. A 404 error would only occur if the resource that you're typing into the address bar to be resolved is NOT found. We would need to know exactly what URL you used in order to troubleshoot the error.

I hope this helps to answer your question, please let us know if you require any further assistance.

Regards,
Arnel C.
