High ranking on a search engine, while not only difficult, is also very fluid. This also depends on the exact search term and what others are doing to their sites as well. SEO standards also change as Google changes their algorithm quite frequently.

Google has said repeatedly that building your site to give the best information to your visitors as possible is the best 'SEO' you can do. You should make sure that your pages give solid information about specific topics to your target audience. Over time this will be the best action you can take. It will attract other high quality relevant sites and they will link to you. This is what builds your site's reputation and allows Google to see you as an authority. Google wants to rank the most authoritative sites for any given keyword search.

Also, spreading your site virally by becoming an author and sharing with social media such as Google Plus, Pinterest, and Twitter helps Google see you as an authority on your topic. This can help your ranking significantly, especially Google Plus. Google likes its own products very much.

Other sites may play with the 'SEO tactic' of the day, but Google is very serious about penalizing any site that tries to game the system.

Kindest Regards,
Scott M
