Lost all WP pages after update

This afternoon, I updated WordPress to 4.3.1, and also updated our theme (Attitude) to 3.0.6. Soon after, I was notified that typing in the main URL takes one to the blog page (instead of the main static page, which was always our home page) and clicking on any menu items led to a 404. After logging in as administrator I discovered that every single page is missing (all the blog posts seem to be there). I have no idea how this happened (the two updates are the only things I did today apart from adding/removing a couple of users) or how I can go about fixing it.

Our url is http://*****.org. Any help on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance,
~Doug

Hello Doug,

Thank you for contacting us about lost pages after updating WordPress, and a Theme. I searched for a similar issue when updating to WordPress 4.3.1, but didn't see many instances pages being deleted. If you made a backup before updating, it may be easiest to restore the backup. Then, update WordPress and the Theme individually. This will help narrow the cause.

Alternately, you can follow our WordPress Troubleshooting guide to determine if it is a problem with the Theme, or plugins.

Let us know if you have any further questions.

Thank you,
John-Paul

Hi,

I followed the directions on the Troubleshooting page but it doesn't seem to be related to the theme (changing the theme doesn't bring back any of our files) or the plugins.

We have the plugin BackWPup and it shows that a backup was done a few weeks ago, but when I try to download the job it just takes me to an empty web page. I can see the log of the backup, but don't seem to have access to the backup file itself.

I have also found a .ZIP file from an earlier backup, when we were using a different plugin, but I've never done a restore before so I'm not sure where to start. I'm trying not to do anything now that will just make the situation worse or make it impossible to get back all of the pages and information that we currently can't see.

Thanks very much,
~Doug

Hello Doug,

Thank you for contacting us. I looked at the BackWPup plugin, and it seems it just does a database backup.

Here is a link to our guide on Importing a Database. This will allow you to restore what was backed up previously.

Thank you,
John-Paul
