One of the popular plug-ins used by customers to track data for a website is the module called Google Analytics.  This module is used to monitor web traffic such as daily visits, different traffic types and web site statics such as time spent on the website by your  visitors.  Using the various statistics that are available in colorful and informative reports, you can easily pinpoint the successful pages of your shop.  Additionally, you can identify the parts of your website which may need better marketing, or even narrow down products which may need better marketing or removal from your store.  The following tutorial explains how to install and then activate Google Analytics in PrestaShop 1.5.

Setting up Google Analytics in PrestaShop 1.5

  1. Login to the Administrator Dashboard
  2. Hover over MODULES in the menu bar, then click on MODULES when it appears in the drop-down menu.  When you load up the Modules, you will see a list of many different modules and it will appear like this:

Type Google or Ganalytics in the search and you will find the module.  Since it is not installed by default, it will look like this:

    googleanalytics-uninstalled

  3. Click on the checkbox (to the left of the module description) to select the module, then click on INSTALL THE SELECTION in order to install the module.  When it is complete it will appear as follows:

    googleanalytics-main

  4. This does not complete the installation.  In order for the module to be fully activated and operational, you will need to click on CONFIGURE as per the screenshot above.  You will see the following:

    googleanalytics-configure

As per the screenshots above, you will need to have a user name and account that you obtain directly from Google. You can get an account here:  Google Analytics.

As with any website, understanding the web traffic that comes to your site is of utmost importance.  It helps you to determine the health of your website or if you are working on promoting a specific product, it can determine if your efforts are working.  It gives you the information that lets you determine return of investment (ROI).  The importance of website analytics cannot be understated for an online business.  Google analytics gives you an invaluable tool to measure your website's efficiency.  Use it to determine and plan the direction of your business progression.
