When you are emailing/transferring a file to someone, it is recommended to Compress a file so it does not get corrupted during transfer. The most popular compressed format is .zip.

In this tutorial we will show you how to Compress a folder into a .zip formatted file using 7-Zip.

You will need 7-Zip installed for this tutorial, it is a free open sourced archiving software that is available online, and can be downloaded here.

Compressing a Folder:

  1. Open the 7-Zip File Manager, and locate the file you want to Compress.
  2. Click the file, then click the +Add button
  3. An Add to Archive window will come up. Make sure zip is selected for the Archive format option, then click the OK button.

The file will be compressed, this will take longer to complete if the size of the files you are compressing are large. You will then see the .zip file in the same location as the original file.
