In this tutorial:

Backing up your site is a necessary part of normal account maintenance. Please read our article entitled Do you Run Backups of your Servers? for more information regarding backups.

At Web Hosting Hub, we offer an automated backup service that you can purchase for $12 per year. Backups are taken of all accounts under 10GB that sign up for automated backups every 24-36 hours.

Limitations of Automated Backup Service

Please note that the Backup Service runs incrementally every 24-36 hours. This means that only one backup per account is stored and the backup is overwritten with any changes made every 24-36 hours. Since the automated backup service is intended for disaster recovery purposes, we strongly encourage users to perform and maintain their own local backups.

In the event you need to undo changes or restore a damaged site, you can utilize your local backup if the automated backup does not contain the data you need. If your site is damaged and that damage is not noticed for several days, the automated backup may have already run and your "good" data would already be overwritten with bad data in the backup. As we only have one backup for your account at any given time, we would not be able to restore a backup from a requested certain date and time.

How do I purchase automated backups?

If you would like to have your website backed up automatically but did not request the service when you first signed up, it can be added at any time. You can purchase automated backups from AMP, which will allow them to be turned on for your account. The cost of automated backups is $12 per year.

  1. Login to AMP.
  2. Click the Purchase Automated Backups button.
    Data Restoration AMP
  3. You will then be on the Order Services page. Choose your account/billing information, read and agree to the Terms of Service, then click the Submit button.

Requesting a Data Restoration

If you are already subscribed to our backup service, or you need help restoring a personal backup, you can request a restoration from AMP.

  1. Login to AMP.
  2. You will see your hosting plan listed, click the Data Restoration Request button.
    DRR button
  3. You will then be on the Data Restoration page. Read the provided information, then click the Next button.
    Submit Restoration Request
  4. Fill in the required fields, then click the Submit button.
    DRR Button

Your Data Restoration request will then be sent to our Live Support team. You will receive an email immediately upon completion of your restoration.

Congratulations, now you are familiar with our Data Restoration process!

Hello Carl

Restorations are typically done by our live technical support team. You can request one through a support ticket or through the Account Management Panel (AMP)

If you have any further questions or comments, please let us know.

Has your company ever thought about keeping 7 days worth of backups overwriting 7 days back instead of overwriting every day?metro Why would anyone purchase the auto-backup if it overwrites the previous day?

I'm sure it was considered, but this would require a very large amount of storage space to create and keep a weeks worth of backups for every account.

Keep in mind you can create a backup in cPanel at any time. There are also many backup plugins/extensions available for most website design software that allow you to create your own incremental backups.

Thank you,
John-Paul

I installed a new theme on wordpress and automatically lost all my old posts that I had already written. Is there a way to get them back?

Installing a new theme should not have deleted anything. That is certainly strange. You can request a data restoration, and we may be able to access a previous state of your site. This is not guaranteed, however, because the backups are written over to store new backups. It's a 24 hour window. If you have any backups of your site, we can restore those.

Please submit your request for a data restoration through your Account Management Panel, as outlined above. Requests for support are not available through the Support Center at this time.
